Femke van Heugten *1978, lives and works in Rotterdam, Netherlands
My fascination lies within the contrast of things. My field of research is where all senses meet, in a point of interaction. The surface between opposites, where change reveils itself.
Starting from an open eye and open heart, combining knowledge by experience with experience by curiousity. Observing movement in the moment, creating an awareness that I translate into a photograph.
Framing the sediment of observation. Placing the visible in context with historical, architectual, cultural and other hidden layers.
My curiousity is driven by intuition and refering to the connection between the inner and outer view on life. Inspired by philosophy/history, working in the surroundings of nature/architecture.
Using the setting of time/timing, collecting fragments of complex layers like human behaviour and atmospheres. Documenting out of engagement.
Perceiving the world as a stage for metamorphoses that I aim to capture in framed observations from daily life.
Creating images that contain a narrative view combined with an invitation for interpretation, with diversity of perception in mind.
In using an authentic approach, working on film and with natural light only, it allows me to connect to the photographic tradition and to interact with the world. Embracing the aesthetical and human aspects of it.
